A love affair with screens

This is a remake of the original age of innocence.

We have no control. We don’t know what we’re doing.

The old rules no longer apply.

We get to start over, in a sense. New lovers, first-time touches, secret kisses. Our hearts are the only things that haven’t been completely corrupted.

Everything is done for us. We have no need for new skills. We are fed and automated.

All we have – and soon, all we will need – is each other.

Boundaries have shifted. Communication is instant, between anyone, anywhere. We can see everything the world has to offer without moving from our beds. If I so desire, you could watch me back.

Once upon a time, we would all be burnt as witches.

Look at what the world is thinking. There are many, many people constantly updating us on what they think and feel and do. We’ve never been closer to the collective unconscious, but we don’t like what we see. It disagrees with us.

We weren’t expecting to open Pandora’s box. We just wanted more convenient encyclopaedias and the ability to chat to someone when the insomnia kicks in and the drink isn’t working.

But it is what it is. Maybe we should try harder to understand it.

We aren’t becoming soulless, though. The world is just changing and it’s too late to go back.

We need everything we currently have. This is evolution in fast motion. Turning back now would be close to impossible.

We will reclaim humanity eventually.

Perhaps not in my lifetime.

But you and I can make a start.

  1. I read this via e-mail as I usually use the WordPress app for reading, but the reader can be slow to update, and I wanted to say I enjoy it! ^_^

I know big surprise, I enjoy something you wrote. πŸ˜‰ Seriously though, it is always fun to read what you write.

    I have to go.

    Cheers! ^_^

    1. Haha, thank you! I’m dreading the day you come here and say ‘Actually Kim, this one is AWFUL’ – and I’ll be fucking devastated! I will post more soon. I ran out of time tonight :'( x

      1. If I thought something was AWFUL as you say, I would make a point to give more constructive criticism than that. Xp

I never critique without a valid response. Oh and one last thing I keep forgetting to let you know. If I ever give a really short response, don’t overthink it or think I don’t care about what you are writing.

It probably means I’m dreadfully tired (insomnia and all). I have been up super late even for me the past few nights, trying to read others work, post my own, and deal with social media, life, etc. So yeah, if I’m ever short in my response or really not making sense, I’m just super tired.

Goodness, I would be a real tool if I was just like Yeah, this was AWFUL. Xp Oh…all kidding aside. This was great!

        Cheers! πŸ˜‰

    1. Thank you – you’re unbelievably lovely! And the same back at you. You’re amazing.

I haven’t had time to come on wordpress much over the last week or so and I’m starting to get a bit antsy… more posts soon, I promise! x

        1. It’s a pain – life is really taking up a lot of my time at the minute. I need a break from it all to get my head together and write more! I hope you’re doing okay x

          1. Life is hindering. My laptop just completely died, because I obviously needed something else to go wrong for me. I hope ‘OK’ means that you’re doing better than I am x
